The Laundry Room: Before
Let's talk about the before... because baby, it was giving blank slate. Flat white walls, no storage system, and not a lick of character. I knew I wanted this space to feel bold and intentional, but also functional. I had already upgraded my washer and dryer, but the room itself felt like it was just an afterthought. I designed a full color-drenched look for this space-from the ceiling to the trim-in a rich chocolate brown that brought in depth, contrast, and warmth.

Prep Work is Key
Before any paint hit the walls, I made sure everything was prepped and ready for my painter. I made sure the room was prepped properly. And y'all, FrogTape(R) made it EASY. I used FrogTape(R) Multi-Surface to tape off the ceiling and protect from the wall paint, and then came back with FrogTape(R)
Delicate Surface once the wall color was cured to safely tape off the trim for my satin topcoat.Taping is one of those steps that gets overlooked, but I made sure we took the time to do it right before my painter got started, but when I say this made a difference-it made a difference. Clean lines, no bleed, and no peeling when it was time to remove it. I handled all the prep-wiping down surfaces, patch any nail holes, and lightly sand where needed to give the paint a smooth finish to grip onto.
Let's Paint!
The paint color I chose is Tarley Brown by Benjamin Moore, and I chose it in three different sheens for my painter to apply: flat for the ceiling and walls, satin for the trim and cabinetry, and a semi-gloss on the baseboards.
Using the same color throughout in different finishes gave the room a layered, elevated look without needing a ton of contrast.I also replaced the cabinet doors with shaker fronts, added brass knobs, and built a pedestal to raise the washer and dryer off the ground. This gave me room to install a custom shoe rack for all those mismatched sneakers that always seem to live in the laundry.
FrogTape(R) in Action
Here's where FrogTape(R) really showed out:- I used the Delicate Surface tape around the door trim after painting the walls. This helped me get clean edges when painting the trim white.- The Multi-Surface tape was my go-to for the ceiling and cabinet lines, where I needed sharp separation from the new paint.- And because I had just painted some walls, I didn't have to worry about the Delicate Surface tape damaging or pulling anything up-it peeled back perfectly.Having the right tape for the job really does change the game. It took the stress out of painting and gave me the confidence to go all-in on a bold look.
Tips for Your Own Color Drench Project
Here are a few things I learned along the way:
1. Always wipe down your walls and trim before painting-dust and dirt will mess with your finish.
2. Use a laser level to line up your tape straight, especially if you're working alone.
3. Don't skip the drying time! Follow the paint can instructions between coats.
4. Peel your tape slowly at a 45-degree angle while the paint is still slightly tacky.
5. Use multiple finishes of the same color to add subtle depth and dimension.
Final Reveal
Y'all, I am OBSESSED. This room finally feels like part of the house. It's moody, rich, organized, and most importantly, done right. From the custom trim to the new folding counter and wall-to-wall storage, this space works for our family now. And every time I walk in, it feels like a little hug of warmth.
If you're thinking about painting a room-especially going for a full color drench-do not skip the prep. FrogTape(R) was a huge part of why this turned out so clean and crisp, and I can't recommend it enough!
